In a welcome shift from the past months of struggle to secure a COVID-19 vaccine, scheduling an appointment has become as straightforward as hailing a ride. Uber has announced that users can now book their COVID-19 vaccine appointments at Walgreens directly through the Uber app.
As of April 28, 2021, Uber users can conveniently arrange their vaccination and transportation all in one go. With Walgreens offering vaccine appointments at over 9,000 locations across the nation, getting vaccinated is now easier than ever.
Even though I’m already fully vaccinated, I decided to test out the app myself, and I can confirm it’s user-friendly. Open the app, and you’ll see options to book a ride or schedule a vaccine. Once your appointment at Walgreens is confirmed, you can promptly arrange your Uber ride to the location, eliminating the hassle of navigating local government websites.
Previously, booking a vaccine appointment in the Uber app wasn’t an option; however, Uber had been providing free rides to Walgreens for individuals who scheduled their appointments independently and lacked transportation, particularly in underserved communities. This initiative began with a pilot program in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, and El Paso. In December, Uber committed to providing 10 million free or discounted rides for those needing assistance getting to their vaccine appointments.
As the country moves closer to normalcy with increasing vaccination rates, Uber has shared this announcement alongside other upcoming services. They are set to launch Uber Rent with Valet, which allows users to book rental cars that can be delivered directly to them. Additionally, Uber Reserve for UberX will enable users to schedule rides up to 30 days in advance, ensuring reliable transportation upon landing at their destination.
Currently, all Americans aged 16 and older are eligible for the vaccine, and you can find local walk-in clinics, utilize the government’s Vaccine Finder, or book an appointment at Walgreens through the Uber app. With so many options available, there’s no reason not to get vaccinated!
