I am writing to officially announce my resignation, effective immediately, from my role as the individual responsible for all things food-related. It has been a rewarding experience, and I have gained countless skills throughout my fifteen years in this position. These include managing multiple dinner preparations to meet the diverse dietary preferences (often characterized by pickiness) of our family members; creating and navigating a weekly grocery list; efficiently unloading groceries without assistance 90% of the time; crafting menus to satisfy all palates; enjoying meals that are consistently lukewarm; and managing the daily loading and unloading of the dishwasher.
When I first embraced this role, I was excited. However, over time, it has become clear that while my responsibilities have increased, the recognition and support I receive have not kept pace. Instead of appreciation and teamwork, I have faced complaints, criticism, and a noticeable lack of engagement from my fellow diners and kitchen staff. Therefore, it is time for us to part ways.
I am, however, willing to continue supporting our food operations financially, even if I will no longer be the one in charge. I am open to assisting in training a replacement to ensure a smooth transition. I expect the following tasks to remain on my agenda until my departure, although I will do my best to complete as many as possible:
- Create the weekly grocery list
- Order groceries online, ensuring family input to avoid any meltdowns when something is forgotten
- Pick up groceries at the local store
- Make an additional trip if something is missed, avoiding any awkward encounters with acquaintances
- Unpack and organize groceries, noting where everything goes (remember, you all might struggle with this)
- Prepare hot breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for everyone
- Clean up after meals, including washing dishes
- Repeat the entire process
As you can see, this role has become too vast for a single person to manage effectively unless it is their sole focus. However, if the position is restructured, I would consider returning on a part-time basis with a supportive team in place.
