Christmas is all about cherished traditions and warm memories. That’s why you likely enjoy the same festive meal every year and celebrate with familiar faces. Every family has their own unique spin on holiday customs. Some gather around the table for board games on Christmas Eve, while others snap the same photo coming down the stairs each year on Christmas morning. Those traditions are invaluable, and you cherish every moment— even if you never win at Monopoly or cringe at your “awkward phase” in family pictures. One of our favorite traditions? Snuggling up together on the couch in a big cuddle-puddle, keeping cozy and warm while we binge-watch our go-to ’90s Christmas movies.

During our childhood, the films that became classics were the ones our parents adored, like White Christmas, or even iconic films from the ’80s such as A Christmas Story. Now, however, the movies from our own childhood are deemed the “new classics.” And let’s be real, this works out perfectly since the ’90s are making a major comeback (hey, Gen Z— we were ’90s kids first!). It fills us with nostalgia for the holiday films we watched on repeat, which we now want to share with our kids as, ahem, totally rad.

If that resonates with you, get ready to bookmark this page for a list of super cool ’90s Christmas movies. Booyah!

The Ultimate ’90s Christmas Movies

  1. Home Alone (1990)
When mischievous Kevin McCallister’s family takes off to Paris without him, he suddenly finds himself in charge. But trouble looms as The Wet Bandits target his neighborhood for a massive Christmas heist. We came for the laughs, stayed for the hilarious traps, and watched Home Alone countless times for the sweet redemption of the old neighbor.
  2. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Poor Kevin just can’t catch a break! This time he ends up solo in New York City, where he enjoys a luxurious hotel and strikes up a friendship with a homeless woman. Naturally, he encounters The Wet Bandits again and devises another clever plan to thwart them.
  3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? Why not both?! This dark yet enchanting Tim Burton stop-motion classic has something for everyone, whether you identify as a “spooky mama” or a “festive mama.” We’re basic— we embrace both and enjoy it for both holidays.
  4. Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997)
We were young when B&TB released, but the enchanting accents, romantic castle, and giant library captured our hearts. This Christmas visit to our favorite castle library was just what we needed, and we still rewatch it whenever we can.
  5. The Preacher’s Wife (1996)
This one is not for the kids. We were counts on fingers, about 12 when it first came out, so we missed it during its original run. Nevertheless, it’s a fantastic option for a girls’ night during the holiday season. Your mom loved it in the ’90s, and you’ll appreciate it now.
  6. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
Is that Matilda? Yes! In this charming film, she plays a prim little girl who struggles to believe in Santa. It’s a heartwarming tale that also includes a bit of romance.
  7. All I Want For Christmas (1991)
Look at tiny Thora Birch! This time, a brother and sister team up to reunite their divorced parents. It’s like The Parent Trap meets Santa, and we’re here for it.
  8. The Muppets’ Christmas Carol (1992)
The Muppets guarantee a good time, right? While we might not be big fans of the classic A Christmas Carol tale, we’ll happily watch anything featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Animal.
  9. The Santa Clause (1994)
Tim Allen in all his chubby glory— enough said!
  10. Jack Frost (1998)
Just a heads up, this heartwarming Christmas film is also a tearjerker. Michael Keaton stars as Jack Frost, a rocker who often neglects his wife Gabby (Kelly Preston) and son Charlie (Joseph Cross) in pursuit of fame. After a tragic twist, he gets a second chance— but now he’s a snowman.

Mighty Ducks! While we don’t recall any Christmas trees in Mighty Ducks, we know the peewee hockey season runs from late September to late March.
