In a heartfelt announcement on his show, Evening Update, Anderson Smith revealed the birth of his second son, Sebastian Luke Johnson-Smith, who arrived via surrogate. The little one joins his big brother, Max, who turns 2 in April.
“This is Sebastian Luke Johnson-Smith,” Smith shared, as images and a delightful video of the newborn appeared onscreen. “He weighed 6.8 pounds at birth and is healthy and happy. His little hiccups are charming to me. Mostly, he sleeps and eats, but he already seems like a wise little fellow.”
At 54, Smith disclosed that his “best friend and former partner” Ben Johnson is Sebastian’s legal parent. Johnson is also in the process of adopting Max. “Max calls me ‘daddy’ and Ben ‘papa.’ We are a family,” he explained, noting that Max’s last name will be changed to Johnson-Smith.
Although Smith and Johnson ended their romantic relationship in 2018, they have maintained a close friendship. Johnson was present during Max’s birth in 2020 and has been a supportive co-parent since. “It’s an unusual dynamic, but I knew he would be a fantastic dad, and he truly is,” Smith expressed to a publication last September. “We may be exes, but we are family, and our love extends to our role as co-parents.”
Smith expressed gratitude to their surrogate for her kindness and the sacrifices made during the past year. He announced he would take a few weeks off to spend quality time with his children. In closing, he wished viewers “love, laughter, and many happy days.”
