Where are all the girl mamas at?!

Kerry Washington recently shared how being a mother to both a daughter and a son has profoundly influenced her perspective on life, emphasizing that her role as a ‘girl mom’ drives her to constantly strive for betterment. During the TIME Women of the Year gala, she expressed her excitement about being honored alongside women she admires for their remarkable contributions to society.

“It’s a surreal moment for me,” Washington remarked. “Being here with women I look up to, who are doing incredible work, and supporting each other is exhilarating. There’s so much to be done to improve our world, and it’s a privilege to celebrate those who are making strides toward that.”

Washington elaborated, “Being a ‘girl mom’ shifts how you view these issues. It inspires me to do more, to improve, and to be the best version of myself for them.”

One of the creative initiatives Washington has undertaken to empower her daughter and other women is an Instagram photo series celebrating “Black Herstory.” Through this series, she channels the spirits of influential Black women throughout history, including activists and artists.

“Our aim was to find a joyful way to honor significant women in history,” she explained. “While Black History Month is crucial, we wanted to highlight Black women specifically during this time, and we’re continuing this in March for Women’s History Month. For me, honoring Black history is a year-round commitment.”

Empowered women uplift other women, and we hope Washington continues to thrive in her mission to empower and inspire others.
