Many plaintiffs have shared their concerns about the bill’s immediate effects. “Our children are already expressing fears that they won’t be able to discuss their family at school,” said Mark and Sarah Thompson, parents of two first graders. “It breaks our hearts to see them feeling isolated and stigmatized by this law.”
“I worry that this new law will hinder my daughter’s teachers from protecting her from bullying at school,” said Jessica Greene, mother of a transgender fifth-grader involved in the lawsuit. “All I want is for my daughter to have a safe learning environment, just like any other student.”
