The Sky’s Not Always Friendly

Hilary Duff recently shared an amusing recount of her chaotic plane journey with her one-year-old daughter, Mae, that many parents will find strikingly relatable. While attempting to enjoy a family getaway to Hawaii, Duff found herself in a situation that every parent dreads: a screaming baby in a confined space filled with strangers.

“Honestly, I’ve never felt more embarrassed than when Mae was acting up on the plane,” the star of How I Met Your Father expressed on her Instagram Story. “She was the most mischievous little one, and before anyone suggests it was due to her ears or teething—nope! She was perfectly fine. But wow, she has discovered how loud she can scream!”

In a moment of endearment, she added, “I can only let it slide because of those adorable little gap teeth!” alongside a cute picture of Mae.

Duff described the sound as reminiscent of “a wild animal in a cage,” and unfortunately, it lasted for a significant part of their five and a half hour flight from L.A. to Hawaii. “It was just unhinged. We were at our wits’ end. I’m sure everyone on that plane was annoyed with us,” she admitted. Despite all the noise, Mae managed to sleep for just about 20 minutes during the trip.

As for the rest of the family? Duff’s 10-year-old son, Leo, was a “champ,” and her 3-year-old daughter, Bella, was an “angel.” However, her husband, musician Jake Morgan, was also feeling the pressure. In a lighthearted moment, Duff shared a photo of him looking less than pleased. “This one was fed up,” she quipped.

While it appears they managed to enjoy some quality time in Hawaii, it seems the trip was more of an adventure than a restful vacation. Unfortunately, the return flight wasn’t much better. “I tried to maintain a positive outlook before heading home,” she noted, “but it was still a sh*t show.”

At least they were flying first class?
