Thompson recounted the unusual birth stories of his two sons, Max, 6, and Leo, 4, who were born in an Uber during a frantic drive to the hospital and in the lobby of their apartment building, respectively. Bella, however, was born in the family bathtub in September 2021. Thompson humorously remarked to the host that he “hasn’t used the tub since.”
“The home birth was planned because our doorman said, ‘We really prefer you don’t even try to come here. We’re still recovering from your 4-year-old’s arrival, so please keep it at home,’” Thompson shared, reflecting on the chaotic birth of Leo in 2018.
Thompson first announced the birth of Bella during a Thanksgiving episode of his show, revealing that her name honors his maternal grandmother. He described her as “very laid-back” and “a big laugher,” expressing that she embodies everything a parent could wish for in a child.
His sons are excited about having a baby sister, with Thompson joking that if Bella had been a boy, his oldest son, Max, might have returned him. “Max wanted a sister so much that if it had been a boy, we might have come home one day to find the boy mysteriously missing, and Max saying, ‘What part of my request didn’t you understand?’” Thompson quipped.
He also discussed the release of his new children’s book, My Fears Are Bigger Than Yours, which tells the story of a rabbit who encourages a bear to face his fears and venture out. “I wrote it to show my kids that I can write stories just as well as the authors of the books we read together,” Thompson said with a grin.
