Toys ‘R’ Us is Making a Comeback!
The beloved toy store, which had closed its doors in 2018, is set to reopen in over 400 locations starting July 15. This revival offers millennial parents a chance to relive the joy of their childhood with their own children.
After declaring bankruptcy and shutting down its physical stores, Toys ‘R’ Us struggled with several unsuccessful relaunch attempts. However, a partnership with Macy’s in 2021 marked a turning point, allowing Toys ‘R’ Us products to be sold online. Now, Macy’s is introducing Toys ‘R’ Us shops within its department stores, similar to its collaboration with Sephora. “The Toys ‘R’ Us experience you remember is returning to Macy’s… and sooner than you think! Some locations are opening this month, with every Macy’s in the U.S. featuring its own Toys ‘R’ Us by mid-October, just in time for the holiday season!” states the announcement on the Toys ‘R’ Us website.
While not all new locations will be as large as the classic stores of the past, some could even surpass them. According to CNN, the stores will vary in size from 1,000 square feet in smaller Macy’s to flagship stores reaching up to 10,000 square feet in cities like Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York. These stores will include demonstration tables for the hottest toys of the holiday season and fun photo opportunities with Geoffrey the Giraffe.
By October 15, all stores are expected to be operational, and from October 15 to 23, Macy’s will host nine days of in-store events to celebrate the brand’s return, featuring family-friendly activities and giveaways from popular brands like Barbie and LEGO.
Let’s hope the brand revives its iconic catalogs for the full Toys ‘R’ Us experience. After all, I don’t want to grow up; I’m a Toys ‘R’ Us kid!
