Mandy Moore recently shared her heartfelt reasons for halting her tour while pregnant, expressing her fears about negatively impacting her unborn child and managing life with a toddler.

After wrapping up the emotional final season of her acclaimed series, This Is Us, in May, Mandy made the tough decision to cancel her upcoming tour just weeks later. Touring with her 18-month-old son, Gus, while expecting another child was overwhelming.

In a candid interview with PEOPLE, she admitted feeling “scared” about the potential risks to her baby’s development. “Being on a set is completely different from being on a tour bus. It felt like trying to sleep on a wooden rollercoaster,” she described. “Gus would be standing up in his Pack N’ Play while the bus shook, and I thought, ‘This isn’t going to work.’

Reflecting on her experience, she acknowledged that while she had managed a similar schedule during her first pregnancy, this time was distinctly more challenging. “I mistakenly thought, ‘If I could do it before, I could do it again.’ But every pregnancy is unique. I was caring for a toddler and honestly felt like a shell of my former self,” Moore shared.

Having not toured since 2007, she expressed her disappointment but recognized that her health and the well-being of her baby were paramount. “I’ve been looking forward to this for over a decade and a half, but ultimately, nothing is more important than my health and my baby’s health.”

She conveyed her feelings of guilt about stepping back in a heartfelt Instagram post on June 29, stating, “With everything happening in the world, I hate to take a moment to focus on my own life, but your messages of love and support have meant so much. It’s hard to slow down and feel like you’re letting others down. It’s disheartening to admit you can’t do everything. Yet, it’s empowering to allow yourself to be human and take a break. We all need that—to prioritize rest over hustle.”

Mandy added, “I have longed to tour and perform since my last tour in the fall of 2007. This time was made even more special with my husband, brother-in-law, and some of my favorite musicians joining me. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I knew in my heart it was the right one. The last three weeks were magical, and I’m grateful to everyone who came to see us perform. I’ll be able to share these memories with my boys—one was running around in different cities, and the other was in my belly as I sang every night. Nothing could be better.”

Mandy, who married Taylor Goldsmith in 2018, is now expecting their second son, though a due date has not been disclosed.
