I also prepare the serving dishes with the ingredients, so anyone can jump in and help with what they prefer,” she detailed.

Her children enjoy this system too, as they can choose their task without confusion or overlap. With family gatherings often including 13 to 30 people, this method streamlines the process. “I handle the main dish, and everything else is up for grabs,” she added.

When it comes to her professional life, Jill also employs Post-Its, but for personal reminders. “I use them for myself. If I want to send a note to Joe, I’ll stick one on his mirror with a sweet message like ‘I hope your day goes well,’” she shared.

Despite her impressive multitasking abilities, Jill prefers the term “managing” over “juggling” or “balancing,” emphasizing that intentional organization is crucial. “You need purpose in what you do,” she stated.

Returning to her full-time teaching role at Northern Virginia Community College in September 2021, Jill reflected on the initial doubts about her ability to do both jobs. “People were skeptical, but I was determined to teach. I knew we could make it work, just as I did while serving as Second Lady,” she recalled.

Jill also acknowledged the pressures of being a busy mom, admitting, “Of course! Especially with kids, you constantly question if you’ve spent enough time at their games or if you’ve given your students the attention they deserve.”

However, she believes that the systemic issues affecting parents cannot be resolved with simple organizational tools. “We need to enact childcare laws and universal pre-K,” she emphasized, advocating for early childhood education. Joe, who experienced single parenthood after losing his first wife, understands the challenges faced by working parents. “He’s passionate about this, but Congress needs to act. The House has passed the childcare and universal pre-K bills, but the Senate hasn’t,” she noted.
