Heidi Klum is reaching out to her freshman daughter at college ‘every two hours’ as she adjusts to her child being away at school.

Dropping off a child at college can be quite an emotional experience, especially for first-time parents navigating this new chapter. Heidi Klum is currently facing this challenge as her daughter, Leni, begins her university journey in New York City. In a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Klum, 49, expressed her feelings about Leni’s move, stating that it’s been “sad.”
“It’s wild,” Klum shared. “She just settled in, and I usually get her on the phone, but after three or four hours without a word, I’m left wondering, ‘Where is she? What’s happening? Why isn’t she answering?’ The worry begins to creep in already.”
Klum admitted that the anxiety of watching her children drive is tough enough, let alone sending them off across the country for their education. “I called Leni every two hours this weekend, urging her to just return my calls. Now I want her roommate’s number so I can check in if I can’t get through to her,” she joked, with Corden chiming in, “I will definitely be doing that,” Klum added, “And I’ll also get the neighbor’s number.”
Heidi and Leni share a close bond, with Leni being Klum’s daughter with ex Flavio Briatore. Klum’s former husband, Seal, has been a father figure to Leni since her birth. The couple also shares children Lou, 12, Johan, 15, and Henry, 16. Currently, Klum is married to musician Tom Kaulitz. Last week, she shared a heartfelt photo from her pregnancy with Leni as a way to commemorate her daughter’s new chapter. “Today marks your big move to college…😿 It feels like just yesterday this picture was taken when I was four months pregnant with you. 🤰🏼 I sometimes wish you could always be this close to me, but it’s time for you to spread your wings. 🦋 Fly safe and shine bright, my @leniklum 💖,” Klum wrote.
Leni recently discussed her close relationship with her mother, noting how Klum encouraged her to wait until she was 16 before pursuing modeling. Although Leni was eager to work with the Brandy Melville brand at just 12, Klum felt she was too young. “I was anxious because I loved the brand,” Leni recalled. “I was shopping with Mom that day and begged her to let me do it. She said no, insisting I was too young. Ever since then, I’ve been pleading to model.”
However, having a mother who prioritized a normal upbringing has influenced Leni’s perspective. “She always tells me, ‘Stay true to yourself and don’t let others affect what you do. It’s okay to say no,’” she shared. Regardless, it’s likely that Klum won’t take no for an answer when Leni doesn’t pick up her calls!
