The 2014 Thanksgiving Initiative
Introduction to the Thanksgiving Initiative
The Thanksgiving Initiative was conceived in 2014, fueled by the compassion of a small group of mothers who openly shared their inability to afford Thanksgiving meals. They were met with a wave of support from readers willing to assist. The objective was not to change the world but to positively impact the lives of a few families.
Growth and Impact
As awareness grew, more families revealed their challenges, and an increasing number of people contributed financially, with donations ranging from a single dollar to several hundred. This grassroots effort enabled over 400 families to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner they might have otherwise missed. Thus, the Thanksgiving Initiative evolved into a formal charity, now recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization.
Community and Connection
Every day, the Thanksgiving Initiative celebrates diverse perspectives from mothers across the nation. Despite our differences, the common thread of a mother’s love and instinct to provide for her family unites us. This shared experience is the essence of the Thanksgiving Initiative, which has benefitted over 4,500 families to date. In the previous year alone, we received 2,765 applications, fulfilling every single one.
Call to Action for 2014
Welcome to the 2014 Thanksgiving Initiative! If you are in need of assistance this Thanksgiving, we encourage you to apply. (Applications closed on 11/1.) For those engaged in blogging or social media, your help in spreading the word would be invaluable. Should you or someone you know own a business seeking exposure while contributing to a meaningful cause, we invite you to learn more here.
If you are in a position to support struggling families, consider making a donation. Just fifty dollars can cover an entire Thanksgiving dinner. Alternatively, you can contribute a smaller amount to be combined with other donors or choose to sponsor multiple families with a larger contribution.
Additional Resources and Contributions
On November 17, just before the holiday season, we are excited to announce the release of “The Guide to Navigating the Holidays,” an e-book published by Simon & Schuster. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Thanksgiving Initiative. This book features contributions from cherished voices within our community and new perspectives.
This is a wonderful opportunity to treat yourself while supporting a good cause. The e-book is available for pre-order at only $2.99 from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or iBooks, and will automatically download to your device on November 17.
Conclusion
Thank you for your support of the Thanksgiving Initiative in any capacity you can provide. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of families in need this holiday season.
