The Beta Version of YouMenuParenting

You know that feeling when you’re so overwhelmed by choices that you just freeze up? It’s a common belief that having too many options can paralyze us, but honestly, I think it goes deeper than that. Sure, we might ditch that first meditation class in favor of binge-watching the first season of a show. It’s way too easy to just stay put—physically and emotionally. We all have our long-standing issues linked to those deep-seated beliefs we carry around, and when we choose to stay stuck instead of moving forward, we’re really just giving in to that inner voice that says we can’t change.

I really think the struggle to be healthy comes from this unconscious urge to cling to our past selves—the sick one, the weak one, the outcast, the broken. We keep rehashing old stories and sticking to outdated ways of thinking, lulled by the familiar perspectives we formed as kids. If we don’t actively challenge those views, we’ll just keep falling back into those old patterns every time we avoid something we know we should do.

When I was a kid, my stepdad was obsessed with the latest tech toys. He set up intercoms on every phone and would “accidentally” eavesdrop on us. Our basement was like a tech junkyard, filled with cables, batteries, and old gadgets he swore he’d need someday. One night, he brought home a Betamax VCR, claiming it was the “future.”

But, spoiler alert—it wasn’t. It became obsolete so fast that it barely even registers as a memory now. Those unconscious images we have of ourselves? They’re our Betamax. We can keep using them to create narratives about who we are, but wouldn’t it be smarter to invest in the future and finally let go of that outdated model?

In summary, we often find ourselves stuck in old beliefs that prevent us from moving forward. It’s essential to challenge these narratives to foster growth and embrace a healthier, more fulfilling future.
