8 Fun Weight Loss Tips Inspired by Kids
Every year, I find myself in the same situation. After indulging in holiday treats and stepping on the scale, I promise myself that this will be the year I finally get fit. You know, the kind of fit where I can slide back into those jeans I wore before having kids. (But first, let me finish this last cookie!)
I often drown in a flood of advice from fitness experts about how to tone up and “Get Fab Abs in Just Six Minutes a Day!” It can get so overwhelming that I end up stress-eating. But recently, I had an epiphany. The best fitness tips have been right in front of me all along—thanks to my kids! While they may have contributed to my weight gain, they can also offer some fun ways to shed those extra pounds. So this year, I’m rolling out a new program for parents and caregivers to lose weight by embracing kid-like activities.
Forget those pricey gym memberships or personal trainers. Just follow your kids’ lead and you’ll be burning calories in no time with these playful moves:
- The Pee-Pee Pretzel: Cross one leg over the other and squirm around, all while insisting you don’t need to go. Then, dash to the bathroom!
- The Terrorizer: Jump out of nowhere and tackle your chosen victim (preferably a sibling) with a hug that feels like octopus arms for a fun takedown.
- The Flyer: Spot something taller than you, climb it, jump off, and do it all over again.
- The Drag & Drop: Empty your closet onto the living room floor, stomp around in frustration for a bit, then put everything back.
- The Mile-a-Minute: When sharing a story, talk super fast. Jump from foot to foot and use lots of hand gestures. Keep it going until your listener looks dazed.
- The Cushion Commando: Race back and forth across the couch cushions until someone tells you to stop (or keep going if they don’t!). Bonus points for a flying leap off the arm.
- The Streak: Before hopping into the bath, run through the house completely naked. Do the same after your shower, twirling a towel like a cape.
- The Terrible Two: Whenever you want something, throw yourself on the floor and flail around like a pro.
I’m also thinking of creating a kid-inspired diet guide filled with gems like “take two bites of dinner and then push everything around your plate” and “snacking on crumbs found in couch crevices is totally acceptable.” Who knew you could get through the day on just a handful of Goldfish crackers and a few raisins?
This year, I am determined to get fit! Who’s with me on this journey? If you’re interested in more about home insemination, check out this post for engaging content.
