7 Reasons to Embrace the Terrible Twos
You know that one friend who always parties a little too hard? As the night wears on, they get louder and more unpredictable, stumbling and slurring their words. They might get into a spat over nothing and tear up at the drop of a hat. Sometimes, they even have little accidents. Well, that’s pretty much what it’s like to have a toddler! The silver lining? Toddlers are absolutely adorable. Their cuteness outweighs their chaos, which is nature’s way of ensuring we don’t just leave them behind during a meltdown in the middle of a store. So, if you’re in the thick of it, here are seven reasons to cherish the terrible twos:
- Their Excitement is Infectious. Watching a child squeal in joy over the simplest things—like bubbles, stickers, or even a balloon—really puts everything in perspective. You can’t help but feel that excitement bubble up, especially during holidays when their joy is at an all-time high.
- The Ultimate Party Animals. If toddlers had their way, they’d party non-stop until they finally crash from a sugar overload. Their endless energy makes them the best partners for dancing, playing, or even helping with chores (if you can believe it!).
- Eager Helpers. Surprisingly, toddlers genuinely want to pitch in. Whether it’s sorting laundry or putting away toys, they love being involved. I’ve heard this eagerness diminishes with age, so I’m definitely taking advantage of it while it lasts!
- Communication Champions. Toddlers can express their likes and dislikes with surprising clarity. They can negotiate, and yes, they’re not above taking a bribe! I’m counting the days until my little one masters these skills too.
- So Tiny and Cute! Those miniature clothes, tiny hats, and adorable accessories are just too much cuteness to handle. It’s hard not to swoon every time you see them in those little outfits.
- Melt-your-heart Moments. There’s nothing quite like when your toddler spontaneously runs up to you for a hug and says “I love you.” It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe but utterly amazing. I’ve even seen my partner get a little misty-eyed during these moments—he insists it was just something in his eye!
- Pure Comedy Gold. Toddlers are natural entertainers, always looking for ways to make you laugh. Their silly antics and observations are often hilarious, and sometimes they don’t even have to try hard to get a giggle out of you.
So yes, toddlers may run around like little party animals most of the time, but they grow up fast. Take in those adorable moments and appreciate the joy they bring. And when you catch them snoozing on the floor, elbow-deep in a snack, remember how lucky you are to still be able to carry them off to bed.
