So, it seems like we’ve had a bit of a mix-up lately, and I think it’s time we sort it out. Remember when you were little and there were chores you just couldn’t handle because you were too small or maybe a little too young? Well, guess what—you’re older now, and there’s so much you can pitch in with around the house!

But here I am, still tackling all the chores myself, and I’ve been wondering why that is. I’ve come to realize it might not be laziness on your part but maybe a concern for my feelings? Just so you know, I’ve been cleaning up after you for years, and I promise I won’t be offended if you help out!

Or maybe you think that if I have less to do, I might actually have some free time and get bored? Let me assure you, I haven’t been bored since the first of you made your grand entrance into my life, and I’ve got plenty to keep me busy!

It’s also possible that in the chaos of our daily lives, I haven’t explicitly told you that you are totally allowed to take on some of those chores you weren’t able to do before. So, consider this your official green light!

Here’s What You Can Take On Around the House:

  • Recycle: Next time you finish a soda or snack, just toss the empty container in the recycling bin instead of leaving it on the counter for me.
  • Laundry: I get it, life gets busy, and I might not always be able to wash your favorite outfit right away. But you can do your own laundry anytime! Remember when I showed you how to sort and use the washing machine? That was your cue!
  • Dishes: I see those dirty cups piling up in the sink. The dishwasher is right next to it, so how about you pop them in there instead? You can do it during a commercial break and still enjoy your favorite show!
  • Unload the Dishwasher: If the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, don’t hesitate to put them away to make room for your dirty ones. It might take a few extra minutes, but you can handle it!
  • Vacuum: I know it used to be scary, but you’ve got earbuds now! Trust me, the noise of the vacuum is nothing compared to the noise you guys make!
  • Scrub Toilets: Honestly, I’ve cleaned enough of your messes over the years, so if you ever feel the urge to tackle that toilet, go for it! I’ll be cheering you on!

These are just a few suggestions. If you’re interested in mopping, dusting, changing sheets, or organizing, I’m totally here for it. I’d love to chat about anything, and I promise I won’t be mad or shocked at all.

I feel so much better after this little chat, and I hope you do too. Now, how about you go tackle a chore or two?

Love ya lots,
Mom
