Think Twice Before Having That Third Child (Unless…)
The choice to expand your family with a third child can be a monumental decision. While I could throw out clichés about how rewarding it is, let’s be real—I wouldn’t change my experience for anything (but that doesn’t mean it’s easy). If you’re contemplating adding a third little one to your crew, here’s why you might want to think twice:
- You Love Sleep Deprivation. Adding another child means a 33.3% chance that someone will be awake at all hours. And believe me, those sleepless nights are relentless—just ask any parent!
- You’ve Got an Industrial Washing Machine. With another child comes an increase in laundry. That’s right—33.3% more clothes to wash and fold. And let’s be real: as kids grow, so do their laundry needs.
- You Drive a Bus. Seriously, you’ll need a massive vehicle to fit everyone. Even if you manage to get a big car, someone’s always going to end up in the middle seat. Getting everyone buckled in? Good luck with that!
- You Enjoy Noise. Because once you add a third child, expect a cacophony of chatter, questions, and the occasional tantrum. The older siblings will seize the moment to test their limits while you’re distracted with the baby.
- You’re Cool with Constant Togetherness. Raising three kids is a two-player game where you both lose together. Just a heads up—your partner might not be hitting the pub for a while!
- You Really Like Your Partner. Because if you don’t, trying to manage three kids together could be a real challenge.
- Family is Close By. Ideally, they should be just upstairs. If they’re more than 30 miles away, reconsider that third kid.
- You’re Ready to Stay Home Forever. The logistics of getting everyone out the door can be overwhelming. Plus, expect fewer invitations to family outings since most dining tables aren’t designed for five.
- You Don’t Need Personal Time. With another child, your “me time” shrinks by another 33.3%, leaving you with a serious time deficit.
- You Have Help. A full-time nanny, cleaner, and chauffeur would be a game changer.
- You’ve Let Go of Expectations. Seriously, don’t expect anything ever again.
And yet, despite all this chaos, I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything.

Summary
Deciding to have a third child is no small feat. It comes with sleep deprivation, noise, and less personal time, but if you’re ready for the adventure and chaos, it can be incredibly rewarding!
