A Few Things I Can’t Believe I Did as a New Mom
Fast forward several years into this crazy journey of motherhood, where each day feels busier and more chaotic than the last. I can hardly believe that I once had the energy (or the craziness) to keep track of every little detail of my baby’s bodily functions. Here are some other things I can’t believe I did as a new mom:
Maintaining a Poop Log
First off, I can’t believe I maintained a poop log. It’s genuinely baffling! I know I’m a bit of an anxious person (thanks, Mom!), but these days, I can barely remember to jot down a grocery list.
Late-Night Feedings
Then there were those late-night feedings. By the time my second daughter arrived, I basically flunked at night feeds. My partner would wake up to find me dozing off with a baby latched on, sprawled across the couch. Now, I cherish my sleep, getting a solid eight hours whenever possible (with the occasional bout of insomnia). The thought of getting up to do anything, like, I don’t know, keeping a tiny human alive, seems downright ludicrous!
Waking Up Before Dawn
And let’s talk about waking up before dawn—every single day. Sleep has become a precious commodity in our household. My kids now look forward to weekends when they’re not dragged out of bed at 6:30 AM for school. Can you believe I once thought finger painting at 5 AM was a great idea?
Making My Own Baby Food
I also can’t believe I made my own baby food. Seriously, kudos to anyone who does this. But these days, when hockey practice is in full swing, a soft pretzel from the snack bar serves as dinner. Sometimes, the only way to coax my Kindergartner out of the car at morning drop-off is to promise him an “all snack” dinner, which, of course, must include a cupcake. Last night, I’m not even sure if either of my kids had a real dinner, which makes it hard to imagine that I once spent hours peeling, steaming, and pureeing organic fruits and veggies.
Portable Toilet in My Car
Lastly, I can’t believe I had a portable toilet in my car. Seriously, no one tells you about the never-ending saga of potty training. It can stretch from a few days to a few years, filled with your child’s anxiety about pooping anywhere other than home or in the foldable potty stashed in the back of my vehicle parked at preschool.
In retrospect, these moments define the wild adventure of motherhood, where every day brings its own set of challenges and triumphs. If you’re navigating the world of parenting, check out this article for more insights on pregnancy and parenting; it’s a great resource.
In summary, as a new mom, I did some pretty outlandish things that now seem unbelievable. From keeping a poop log to waking up before dawn and even making baby food, these quirky experiences form the fabric of my motherhood journey.
