Smug Parents of Picky Eaters, Please Zip It
So, after years of parenting, reading countless articles, and writing a few myself, I’ve come to realize one simple truth: parenting is a deeply personal journey, and no two experiences are the same. Just because you’ve found the magic formula for getting your kids to eat well doesn’t mean everyone else should be able to replicate that success.
Take celebrity chef Jamie Fisher, for instance. He believes it’s a piece of cake to get kids to eat healthily because he has two little foodies at home. Jamie and his actress partner have their own garden, where they grow the freshest veggies, and he whips up morning smoothies with those vibrant greens. His son can’t get enough of it. And if your kid doesn’t love greens, well, that just means you’re not trying hard enough. Cue the sarcasm.
Sure, Jamie has the luxury of kids who devour everything he offers, but that doesn’t mean all parents are slacking off when it comes to food battles. Picky eaters come from all types of families, and if you’ve managed to avoid that struggle, you should feel grateful, not judgmental. Plus, let’s not forget that his kids are still young—ages three and one—so he might want to hold off on the smug parenting talk until they hit those tricky toddler years.
When my first child started eating solid food, he was an adventurous little guy, gobbling up everything from avocado to capers. But then he hit three and suddenly it was all about spaghetti and PB&J. My two-year-old is still on board with trying new things, but I’m sure that’ll change soon enough. Another lesson learned: never count your chickens before they hatch!
And don’t expect Jamie to offer his kid a hot dog anytime soon; he thinks they’re terrible for you. He proudly states that his child has never eaten one because they’re full of junk. Sure, that may be true, but I can’t help but roll my eyes at the idea that it’s that simple. He’s also mentioned that his kids enjoy gourmet foods like foie gras and Vegemite, which is full of preservatives. So, maybe he should just chill a bit.
You know what they say about parenting? Anything that you feel smug about will eventually bite you in the rear. Just wait, Jamie.
