A Heartfelt Note to My Belly

Hey there, my lovely belly!

We’ve definitely had our ups and downs lately, haven’t we? I’ve been a bit harsh on you—pushing you away and, let’s be honest, trying to suck you in. It’s been confusing, for both of us! I know that in the past, I used to squeeze you into those oh-so-fun Spanx, which you clearly hated. But lately, I’ve let go a bit too much, and I suspect you’ve noticed.

You might think I’m just playing some weird game with you, teasing you before dragging you back to those intense workout sessions with that former dancer who thinks bright colors and toeless socks are a thing. But seriously, my sweet belly, I promise this isn’t a trick. This is me coming to grips with who we are together. And guess what? We’re soft.

Can we embrace that softness? Things used to be tighter before the kids came along, didn’t they? I totally get it—parenthood changes everything, even the most solid relationships. Remember those gym days when we spent hours together, pumped and loving every crunch and side plank? Ah, those were the days!

Back then, it felt easy, right? A six-pack was something we could easily achieve, even share! Now, it feels like we’re lost in the hustle of motherhood, and I’ve drifted far from those old habits. That’s why I’m reaching out to you now. Let’s get real for a moment. If things have gotten a little out of hand, I take full responsibility. I know I’ve relaxed a bit too much. But can you ease up on your expectations? Eyeing that cute little outfit in my closet—the one that belongs in a bar at 2 a.m.—isn’t fair to either of us. And those jeans that are one size too small? They’re suffocating me!

So here we are, trying to untangle the mess. I’ve got a pile of old magazines collecting dust because, let’s face it, I’m too busy being a mom to worry about how to look like those models in those glossy pages. You don’t understand the pressure I feel trying to replicate their perfect poses on my living room floor, do you? All you see is a flat image, but I’m a whole person! If we keep going on like this, I might just end up with even more of me to love.

And that’s what this letter is all about—a love letter to you, my belly. I’m finally accepting every part of you. Your cute dimples, the way you’ve expanded with me, and even those funny little side handles that make no sense! I’m embracing us as we are. Yearning for the past is for those cheesy movies or reality stars pretending to be younger than they are.

So belly, let’s grow old together—literally! I think if we allow ourselves to just be, we could find happiness deep within.

Yours (literally),
Sophie
