9 Fun Activities to Enjoy With My Toddler Now That His Sibling is in School
Since my older son, Jake, started school last week, I’ve been spending a lot more quality time with my 2-year-old, Max. Honestly, I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know about this little guy! He’s been along for the ride since day one, usually tucked away in a carrier or hanging out while I juggle Jake’s needs. Luckily, Max is a cheerful little fella who rarely complains—at least not loudly enough for me to hear over his big brother. But now that Jake is at school all day, I finally get to focus on Max and get to know him better. Here are nine things I’m excited to do with him now that Jake’s busy learning.
1. Have uninterrupted chats.
It turns out Max has plenty to say! I always thought he was just a quiet kid, but really, he was just getting drowned out by his brother.
2. Remember his middle name.
Seriously, I have no idea what it is right now!
3. Experiment with new foods.
Jake is notorious for declaring “YUCK!” at meals he’s had a million times, so Max hardly gets a say in what’s for dinner. Turns out he’s totally okay with sandwiches cut any way.
4. Notice his beautiful blue eyes.
How did I miss that?
5. Let him wake up from his nap at his own pace.
Instead of having Jake crash into his crib yelling “TIME TO GET UP!”
6. Enjoy playing together.
Without Batman smashing through our meticulously built train set.
7. Discover if he has friends of his own.
We went to the park just the two of us, and I was surprised when he hopped into the sandbox and said “Hi, Lucy” to another child.
8. Ask him who taught him to use a fork.
Somewhere along the way, he figured it out while Jake dominated dinner conversations like a mini politician.
9. Give him a bath without the chaos of an overly enthusiastic bath buddy.
(Okay, he can be a bit overzealous too, to be fair.)
It’s refreshing to finally bond with this little guy who has quietly waited while I dealt with Jake’s antics. Max is pretty amazing, and he has so much to share—at least until 2:30 PM rolls around.
