Another Pouch Recall Raises an Important Question: Can We Please Make These Clear?
Hey friends! So, GoGo Squeez has voluntarily recalled some of their fruit pouches due to mold discovery. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a recall for mold in pouches, which makes you wonder: why aren’t these things clear yet?
According to a letter on their website, GoGo Squeez revealed they found some common mold (the kind that can grow on fruit) in a small number of pouches. An independent lab tested the mold and an expert microbiologist confirmed there’s no known health risk. But let’s be real—mold is just plain gross to see or taste, and that’s not the experience anyone wants. They assured us they’re working hard to fix the issue and are confident they’re back to their high quality standards. Plus, they’re in close contact with the FDA to keep us informed.
If you have pouches with a “Best Before Date” between 6/30/16 and 7/26/16, check your pantry! It seems like GoGo Squeez is taking the right steps to address the problem and listen to consumer concerns. After all, fresh fruit can mold too. But honestly, every pouch should be clear, so we can easily see what’s inside. Remember how Capri Sun went through a similar situation with mold recalls? They finally decided to put clear bottoms on all their products, giving parents peace of mind that their juice is mold-free. It just makes sense, right?
No one really expects factory-produced foods to be completely free from non-food items or mold. I remember opening a frozen dinner years ago only to find a cicada bug in it. Gross, right? But it’s a reality that can happen when you buy processed foods. Bugs, foreign particles, mold—these things occur. However, making the bottoms of food pouches transparent seems like a reasonable step for companies, especially when they’re marketing to families.
My kids are older, so we just missed the pouch craze, but I can’t help but think I wouldn’t have bought them if I couldn’t see what was inside. I’m not judging any parent who does, but the thought of what’s hidden in those packages gives me the creeps. I bet there are tons of other parents out there feeling the same way! Clear pouches could likely boost sales and prevent kids from accidentally consuming moldy food. Here’s to hoping GoGo Squeez takes a hint from Capri Sun and makes these recalls a thing of the past.

In Summary
The recent GoGo Squeez pouch recall highlights a persistent issue in food packaging—mold contamination—and raises the question of why these pouches aren’t made clear. Transparency in food packaging could not only improve consumer trust but also potentially boost sales.
