Hey there, Childless Colleague!
After spending four months caring for my little one, I’ve reemerged into the office, squinting at the fluorescent lights. It’s fantastic to see you all again! While the workspace hasn’t changed much, I’ve had quite the transformation. So, here are a few things I’d like to share:
- Lunch Plans? Not Today. I would love to relive those long lunches and a couple of beers, but right now, I can’t spare two hours. I’m happy to do a quick run to the food court, but I’ve got errands to run—maybe we can catch up in 18 years?
- The Backpack Mystery. Yes, I carry a pump in my backpack. Three times a day, I navigate upstairs to plug in that contraption and get my “liquid gold.” So if you ask about my backpack, be ready for a detailed explanation!
- I’m Out at 5:00 PM. Don’t expect me to linger until 6:30 pretending to be busy. By 5:06, I’m speeding home in time for bath time. I’ll be back online at 7:31, ready to tackle anything you throw at me—sleep is overrated anyway!
- Let’s Skip the Baby Talk. Just because I adore my kid doesn’t mean I want to discuss him in the hallway. It’s tough leaving him with a nanny after four months of care—I promise I feel it. But can we save the chatter for another time?
- Work Feels Like a Spa Day. So please, spare me the workplace complaints. Eight hours in a comfy chair without any baby mess? That’s my version of relaxation!
- I’m Actually Working From Home. When there are fewer distractions, I can focus on getting things done. Yes, I can meet that deadline and join that conference call—my nanny is here for a reason!
- I’ve Got Something to Prove. I’m sharper and more effective than ever. Post-baby, I’m a multitasking powerhouse with a keen sense for unnecessary distractions. I appreciate my job more than I did before, and I’m ready to bring my A-game!
- Great to See You! It’s refreshing to have a conversation that doesn’t revolve around my milk supply. Just don’t take it personally if I have to cut our chat short—I have a busy schedule!
So, the next time you see me hauling my backpack upstairs, let’s keep the chit-chat light. Just know I’m navigating this whirlwind of emotions and responsibilities, and for the love of nap time, please don’t ask, “What’s in the backpack?”

Summary:
After returning from maternity leave, I wanted to share some insights with my coworkers without kids. I’m still adjusting to my new routine, and while I love my child, I prefer to keep discussions light and professional. I’m focused on my work and ready to prove that I can manage everything with efficiency and care.
