I can see the excitement bubbling over in you! Since 5:55 a.m., you’ve been bouncing around, and I’ve noticed your Minecraft adventures just outside my bedroom door. Thanks for holding off on opening my door until the sun decided to join us.
In a moment, you’ll dive into your Christmas gifts. Wrapping paper will fly, hot chocolate might spill, and Styrofoam peanuts will mysteriously attach themselves to our dog. But while I have your full attention—yes, I see those eye-rolls; it’s Christmas, so bear with me—I want to share something important.
Let’s get real about those gifts you’re about to unwrap. Truth is, I wasn’t able to snag everything I wanted for you this year.
You might graciously smile when you unwrap that new snowboard or cool tech gadget, but if I could, here’s what I truly wish I could give you this Christmas:
- A strong sense of individuality: The bravery to carve your own paths, speak out against injustice, and resist the pressure to conform. Remember, being part of the “in” crowd isn’t what truly matters; it’s about sleeping peacefully with a clear conscience.
- A sense of wanderlust: I want you to crave adventure and embrace diverse cultures. Ditch those rigid plans and relish the thrill of the unknown. Put down your devices and really experience life—breathe in that crisp air and soak in your surroundings.
- An endless curiosity: I wish I could gift you a lifetime of questions. Keep that curiosity alive as you grow older, and if anyone ever tells you, “We do it this way because we always have,” challenge that mindset.
- A commitment to kindness: I want you to always be kind, especially to one another. Your siblings will have your back like no one else. Trust me, no one else is going to march into the boys’ locker room for you—unless it’s me!
- A sense of serenity from spirituality: I’m not talking about religion; I want you to learn to let go of what you can’t change. Have faith in something bigger than yourself and appreciate what you have. You don’t need to carry the weight of the world—it’s not your job.
- A healthy sense of humor: You’ve already got this, so I hope you’ll share your laughter, smiles, and hugs generously. Be the one who spreads joy and positivity, and remember, don’t take yourself too seriously. Those who do can be a bit dull.
- A passion for lifelong learning: Stay open-minded and teachable. The world is so much more vibrant when you embrace different perspectives.
- Unwavering support: Wherever life takes you, I’ll be there—unless it’s the boys’ locker room (but who knows?). I’m your rock; I’m your mom. You are my greatest gifts.
Alright, now you can rip into those other gifts under the tree!
