Looking for an Easy Way to Dress Your Kids? Meet the Moms Behind SimpleThreads, Making It a Breeze!
What could be better than an amazing company? An amazing company run by women, of course! Here at Home Insemination Kit, we’re huge fans of the children’s clothing brand, SimpleThreads.
Founded by Lisa Thompson and Sarah Wilson, SimpleThreads delivers kids’ clothing with “simplicity, quality, and price points all under $25.” That means no obnoxious logos, no cheesy sayings, and definitely no glitter; just cute, high-quality kids’ clothes that are perfect for mixing and matching. What’s not to love?
We caught up with Lisa and Sarah to dive deeper into their vision and journey.
Q: Your clothes feature “no cartoon characters or princesses.” What’s your stance on graphics and characters?
Haha! No real issue there. We can all appreciate a fun graphic tee; our kids have been obsessed with princesses too. However, we were shocked at how hard it was to find simple, well-made clothes in beautiful colors. We saw a gap in the market and decided to fill it with stylish clothes that every kid needs—whether they want to pair them with a favorite graphic or go for a head-to-toe solid look. Not everything has to have logos and characters, right?
Q: How does a wardrobe full of solid colors make life easier?
A drawer brimming with lovely solid colors is a drawer full of “you can’t go wrong.” Everything coordinates! Kids can dress themselves confidently, and parents won’t have to stress over their little ones picking out wild combinations of animal prints, stripes, and huge logos (which can be funny occasionally, but not every day!). That’s a win-win for everyone!
Q: How do you juggle running a business while raising your kids?
As moms running our business, we work super hard, but we do it on our own terms. Flexibility is key! We’re home in time for dinner and take care of work after the kids are asleep. Plus, we can work from home when someone is sick or has a performance! This makes us focused and efficient in our work, while also cherishing the quality time with our families. We support each other in this journey. Balance is something to celebrate, not feel guilty about!
Q: Why choose SimpleThreads over places like Target or Old Navy that may have lower prices?
We weren’t aiming to be the cheapest, but to provide exceptional quality at affordable prices. We use high-quality fabrics that are soft yet durable. Our styles are simple but modern, designed by a fantastic designer named Mark Edwards, and we offer a wide range of bright colors. All our clothes are under $25 because we wouldn’t want to pay more for clothes that kids outgrow in the blink of an eye (and that often end up with ice cream stains).
Q: What advice do you have for moms who want to start their own business?
First off, being a mom is fantastic prep for entrepreneurship. We see the world through the eyes of consumers—we are the customers! The best businesses come from personal experience and passion, so start with something you truly want. That’s exactly how we felt about SimpleThreads. Then just begin. It doesn’t need to be perfect (it never will!). Take one step, then another. And seek advice from trusted mentors. The people who believed in us were instrumental in opening doors and offering valuable guidance. Having cheerleaders is essential!
