Orlando Sheriff’s Office #KeepDancingOrlando Tribute Makes Waves Online
In a heartwarming response to the tragic events that unfolded at Pulse nightclub, the Orlando Sheriff’s Office has joined the #KeepDancingOrlando challenge, producing a vibrant video designed to uplift the community after the loss of 49 lives.
The challenge originated from a group of local residents who created a video featuring Whitney Houston’s hit “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” showcasing iconic spots around Orlando like the University of Central Florida and the Orlando Science Center. The aim? To not only honor the victims but also to raise funds for their families.
According to spokesperson Laura Bennett, Sheriff (Tom) Johnson embraced the idea after local organizations extended the challenge. “Sheriff Johnson thought it would be a great way to spread some joy during this tough time,” she explained. “The response from our team was phenomenal; he even sent out a heartfelt email thanking everyone who participated.”
Orlando was shaken to its core after the mass shooting on June 12, which left 49 people dead, making it one of the deadliest incidents in recent U.S. history. As investigations into the shooter’s motives continue, the community has been navigating a mix of sorrow and solidarity. “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions—sadness mingled with incredible acts of kindness,” Bennett shared. “We’re all coming together to heal and to remember those we lost.”

Notably, some of the law enforcement personnel featured were first responders that night. “Many deputies were on the scene providing vital assistance during the horror of the Pulse shooting, while others lost friends,” Bennett added. “This video is a beautiful way to channel that pain into something positive, honoring the 49 victims through dance.”
Both the original video and the Sheriff’s rendition have gained viral traction, inspiring various groups, including the Orlando City Soccer Team and the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, to contribute their own versions. The Sheriff’s Office has even challenged the Orlando Police Department and local politicians to join the #KeepOrlandoDancing movement.
The dedicated officers who worked tirelessly that night remain committed to helping their community heal. “This video was a true labor of love, and the Sheriff hopes it lifts spirits and shows how much we care,” Bennett concluded.
