A sports medicine doctor is making waves online after sharing a snapshot of her juggling work, pregnancy, and motherhood. Sarah Johnson, a physician based in Oklahoma City, faced a childcare crisis when her husband was away, and her plans for her three-year-old fell through. Instead of staying home, she decided to strap her little one on her back and head to the field anyway. Oh, and did we mention she’s also pregnant?
In a Facebook group for physician moms, Sarah shared a photo of herself providing sideline coverage for a high school football game. The image quickly went viral, demonstrating the reality of balancing multiple roles. “This is what happens when you’re 35 weeks pregnant, your husband is out of town, and you have a game to cover!” she wrote.
We can’t help but admire her determination; let’s be honest, many of us might have chosen to cozy up at home with our feet up, using the classic excuse of “I’m pregnant and my babysitter bailed.” But not Sarah. She powered through the chaos of the day.
“I thought the other moms might appreciate a glimpse into our daily lives,” Sarah said. “The positive responses from the group have been overwhelming. I truly believe it’s possible to balance a multifaceted career and life, though it does require a lot of effort and creativity.”
This is a prime example of that “effort” she mentioned. “I’ve faced skepticism along the way, especially as a woman and a mom in the medical field. But it’s all about pushing through and showing that you can handle whatever life throws at you—even if you’re juggling multiple roles at once,” she added in an interview with our blog.
When asked about potential criticism for bringing her child to work, Sarah remained unfazed. “I’m focused on getting the job done, both on the field and as a mom. My daughter’s safety is my priority,” she explained. “Luckily, I work in an environment that’s supportive of my dual roles, which makes all the difference.”
Her story is a testament to the power of community support in making it all work. Even when her babysitter flaked, bringing her kid to work wasn’t an issue. It’s clear that Sarah felt empowered by her job, allowing her to set boundaries that suit her needs.
Moms have been getting things done since the beginning of time, and Sarah is no exception.
