Asher Green is setting the internet ablaze! In just a week, a snapshot of the 15-month-old has garnered over 59,000 likes and 79,000 shares on Facebook. Now, his mom, Lisa Green, is reaching out to children’s retailer OshKosh B’Gosh, hoping they’ll feature him in one of their ad campaigns.

“I want OshKosh to see what we see in our son,” Lisa shared with Home Insemination Kit. “It’s not about the buzz we’ve created online; I want them to recognize his worth and understand how much he could bring to their marketing. Kids with Down syndrome and other disabilities are absolutely remarkable, and we want OshKosh to help shift the narrative around them.”

While some brands like Target, Kmart, and Tommy Hilfiger have embraced more inclusive advertising, individuals with disabilities remain largely invisible in the media landscape.

“Out of 157 million companies globally, only a few feature consumers with disabilities,” noted Jamie Foster, founder of Changing the Face of Beauty. “Brands have the power to uplift the future of the disability community by including them in their marketing strategies. One in five families has someone with a disability in their midst. That’s 20% of the population that brands like OshKosh are missing out on communicating with.”

Living in Georgia, Lisa hopes that Carter’s, Inc., the parent company of OshKosh B’Gosh, will take her plea seriously and include children with disabilities in their advertising. “If we don’t genuinely embrace my son and others with special needs, we can’t expect to see true inclusion in the future,” Lisa declared. “It’s time we recognize that they’re not just a passing trend in advertising. They’re here to stay!”

Home Insemination Kit reached out to OshKosh B’Gosh through Carter’s, Inc. but has yet to receive a response. October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and you can learn more about spreading awareness and celebrating the strengths of individuals with Down syndrome by visiting NDSS.

In summary, Lisa Green is advocating for greater representation of children with disabilities in advertising, specifically urging OshKosh B’Gosh to feature her son Asher. This initiative highlights the need for inclusivity in media and marketing, reflecting the reality that one in five families includes someone with a disability.
