A Valentine’s Tribute to the One Who Turned My World Upside Down
The other day, I found myself wandering through a bookstore with my little one, Jake. I wish I could say we spent our time diving into literary discussions, but that would be a stretch. Instead, we were on a mission to touch, climb, and create chaos until nap time arrived.
While I was trying to restore order in the aftermath of my tiny tornado, a cheerful staff member approached us to offer help. Jake’s body language was clear: “No thanks! I’m too busy turning this shelf into my personal playground.” As I picked up the scattered books, I stumbled upon the Valentine’s Day display. Honestly, it was adorable. Rows of books celebrating the sweet bonds between parents and children, animals and their young, all adorned with heartwarming illustrations.
But as I flipped through them, I realized they didn’t resonate with my reality. Sure, they were lovely, but when I think of the love I have for my son, it’s filled with more chaos than cuddles. My heart swells for him, but our days are far from serene strolls in flower-filled parks; they’re more like wrestling matches over crossing the street. So, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I decided to pen my own ode to Jake, aptly titled “I Love You More: A Tribute to the One Who Upended My Life.”
I Love You More Than Coffee
I’ll never forget the moment the doctor told me I was expecting you. It was the same moment I learned I had to cut back on my beloved coffee. Can you imagine waking up to a world devoid of that morning jolt? It’s like taking away your favorite sippy cup—utterly devastating. But every time I glance at you, running around and testing your new climbing skills, I’m reminded that the sacrifice was worth it. And now that I can enjoy my caffeine fix again, I assure you, I love you more than coffee, and yes, even more than sushi and deli meats.
I Love You More Than Sleep
There was a time when sleeping in meant waking up at 9 a.m. with the bliss of lazy mornings and spontaneous plans. Now, “sleeping in” is defined by any moment you stay in your crib past 7 a.m. I know I’m partially to blame, having stayed up just to watch you sleep as a baby, but I still love you more than the elusive dream of a full night’s rest.
I Love You More Than My Dignity
I’ve always been on the quieter side, shy and reserved. The mom you know, however, is a far cry from that girl. Now, I find myself belting out “The Wheels on the Bus” with enthusiasm while pretending to be a dinosaur in public, all to see that contagious giggle of yours. I’d trade all my dignity for a moment of joy because I love you more than that.
I Love You More Than Hair Appointments
While you might not be the sole reason for my gray hairs, let’s just say you haven’t made things easier. Before you, I would have never let my hair go unkempt, but now, I’m just too busy! Honestly, I spend more time making sure you look stylish than I do on myself, and I’m okay with that. I love you more than regular hair appointments.
I Love You More Than Fancy Restaurants
Remember those places where adults would gather over fancy meals and quiet conversations? Well, those days are a thing of the past. Now, “dining out” involves takeout after you’ve gone to bed, which is perfectly fine with us. Because at the end of the day, we love you more than any upscale restaurant experience.
So here’s to you, my little whirlwind. I love you through every tantrum, sleepless night, and giggle-filled moment. And while our days may not be filled with serene floral walks, the love we share is undeniable. Oh, and just so you know, I love you more than that last bite of croissant you swiped this morning.
