Dear Mr. President,
It’s been a troubling few months as we’ve witnessed countless bomb threats aimed at Jewish Community Centers (JCC) across the nation. Just yesterday, two of these centers were targeted not far from where I live. My friends and I have young children, many of whom attend various temple programs in our area.
To my dismay, these little ones, aged between 1.5 and 5, had to undergo lockdown drills yesterday because of the nearby threats. They were greeted at school by police officers, simply because they identify with the Jewish faith. Parents are scared to send their kids to school, while these innocent children are left bewildered and frightened by the situation. Can you imagine the kind of fear we’re instilling in such young hearts?
I’ve noticed you advocating for gun access in schools, claiming it’s about safety. You make numerous speeches about closing borders, all in the name of keeping our citizens safe too. But when it comes to protecting our children from the very real threats they face at home, your silence is deafening. The danger isn’t coming from refugees or immigrants; it’s from our neighbors. And yet, you say little about it.
You appointed a woman like Betsy DeVos, promoting the idea of school choice for education. My friends, who send their kids to temple schools, are now contemplating withdrawing them for safety reasons. Is this what you envision as educational choice?
I want my children to learn their letters, numbers, and shapes, but also to embrace their faith without fear. Your inaction is allowing these threats to fester, making safety a luxury rather than a given. Your only public comment on the matter was to assert that you’re “the least anti-Semitic person” you know, citing your Jewish family members as proof. But let’s be real—having Jewish relatives doesn’t absolve you from the need to take a firm stand against anti-Semitism.
You campaigned on a promise to “Make America Great Again,” but is this the safety you envisioned for my family? While you focus on external threats, the real danger lurks closer to home, and it’s growing. Rather than pouring billions into defense, why not invest that money in programs that promote tolerance and love? Our fellow citizens, filled with bigotry, are in desperate need of your guidance. They need to see you as a leader who promotes peace, not one who fuels hate.
Please, I implore you to take immediate action—something impactful, something necessary, something now.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Jewish Mother
