Play-Doh: it’s both a delightful distraction and a bit of a headache. On one hand, I know my kids will be thoroughly entertained for a while. This means I can sneak in a shower, whip up dinner, tackle the laundry, or even binge-watch the latest episode of my favorite show while indulging in chocolate chips without interruptions. Guilt-free creative play? Yes, please! On the flip side, I can anticipate a mini mess explosion across my floor for at least the next eight weeks. And let’s not forget, one of my little ones might soon be producing colorful “rainbows” in the bathroom.
However, the mess is manageable, and my kids adore Play-Doh. We don’t play with it every day, which helps keep it fresh and engaging. To make our Play-Doh sessions more enjoyable for both me and my kids, I’ve rounded up some essential gear.
1. An Abundance of Play-Doh
Trust me, there’s nothing worse than promising a Play-Doh session only to discover that the tubs are dried out and mixed with remnants from past projects. I keep a stash of fresh Play-Doh on hand, swapping out the old for the new to keep things vibrant and pet-hair-free. Oh, and speaking of convenience, there’s a nifty Dash Button for Play-Doh available on Amazon. Just stick it near your Play-Doh stash, and with a simple press, you can reorder more when supplies run low—perfect for busy parents who forget shopping lists!
2. Large Silicone Baking Mats
These mats are essential for containing the Play-Doh chaos. I give each kid their own mat to keep the gooey stuff from sticking to my kitchen table. When they’re done, we pop the Play-Doh back in its containers, and I simply shake the mats off into the trash, avoiding the tedious tape method for picking up tiny scraps.
3. Play-Doh Tools
This set of tools is a must-have! It gives your kids everything they need to cut, roll, and shape Play-Doh to their heart’s content, transforming their imaginative ideas into reality.
4. Play-Doh Fun Factory
If you’re diving into the world of Play-Doh, the Fun Factory is a must. I remember using it as a child, and it kept me entertained for hours. We got one for my son a few years back, and it’s still his go-to when we pull out the Play-Doh.
5. K-Cup Carousel
Here’s a clever twist! If you prefer smaller containers of Play-Doh, this is a fantastic storage solution, especially for tight spaces. It keeps everything organized without taking up too much room on the table.
Play-Doh will be a part of your life for a while, so it’s wise to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for the whole family.
