LuLaRoe Leggings Keep Ripping for No Obvious Reason, and We’ve Had Enough

If you’ve been paying attention to the fashion world, you’ve probably heard of the LuLaRoe leggings phenomenon. Famed for their incredibly soft materials and vibrant, unique prints, these leggings have gained a massive following among women everywhere.

The process of snagging a pair of these coveted leggings often involves navigating frustrating Facebook groups, battling low inventory on popular designs, and shelling out around $25. I’ve witnessed grown women nearly come to blows over specific patterns, like pizza wedges—it’s no joke.

When I first wrote about LuLaRoe last fall, I had yet to try on a pair myself. However, thanks to some friendly LLR consultants online, I was fortunate enough to receive a few pairs to test out. One of those was a “unicorn”—a term for particularly hard-to-find patterns—specifically, a solid black pair. Jackpot! While I’ve bought several more pairs since then and enjoy wearing them around the house for their comfort, my black unicorn leggings quickly became a disappointment. After just one or two washes, following the care instructions, I discovered holes in the crotch seam. Finding a replacement pair has proven impossible, and even if I had the time to sift through countless Facebook groups to find a consultant, the thought of mailing them back, taking my kids to the post office, and paying for shipping feels like too much trouble for a pair of leggings.

I’m not alone in my frustration. Every time the topic of LuLaRoe arises, our comment sections are filled with women not only expressing love for the brand but also lamenting over leggings that barely survive a single wash. Many report tiny holes appearing before they even hit the spin cycle. The ongoing complaints about poor quality and frustrating return policies have raised concerns over LuLaRoe’s practices. It’s important to note that the responsibility doesn’t lie with the consultants, as they too are affected by the company’s corporate decisions. Clearly, someone within the company opted to cut corners to keep pace with demand, leaving both customers and consultants as victims of this situation.

Our associate editor, Jamie Smith, once quipped in a Business Insider article: “These leggings tear like wet paper.” She knows from experience, having amassed a collection of LuLaRoe leggings before deciding to stop hunting for elusive “unicorns” due to their lack of durability.

In fact, thousands of dissatisfied customers have come together in a Facebook group to voice their grievances. Two customers, in particular, have taken legal action against LuLaRoe for knowingly distributing faulty leggings. Plaintiffs Maria Anderson and Linda Davis are holding LuLaRoe accountable for misleading marketing practices that have affected countless women who spent their hard-earned money, and significant time, trying to acquire these leggings. Should their lawsuit succeed, it could set a precedent for anyone who purchased LuLaRoe leggings after March 31, 2016.

Fingers crossed that Anderson and Davis can gain some traction against a company that seems to be taking advantage of women, both as consultants and customers.

Summary

The LuLaRoe leggings trend has garnered significant attention, but many customers are frustrated by the quality issues, particularly with leggings ripping after minimal use. Legal action has been initiated against the company for these defects, highlighting a growing dissatisfaction among consumers.
