Dear Heavenly Father
As we approach the close of another school year, we humbly gather our thoughts and prayers on behalf of all parents navigating this chaotic time.
Lord, please rescue us from the struggle of packing lunches that lack enthusiasm and the constant oversight of backpacks that often go unchecked. Grant us endurance during the long evenings when daylight lingers, yet our children must retire early to prepare for the bus that, for some reason, still arrives at dawn each day.
Guide us through the whirlwind of May’s endless events—special projects, performances, and celebrations that can feel overwhelming. Help us to find joy in these moments, rather than seeing them as tasks designed to test our patience.
Give us the fortitude to support our children at baseball games, choir performances, and award ceremonies. Even as we sneak in a quick game of Candy Crush on our phones, remind them that our love is genuine and our applause is heartfelt, even when we’re running on empty.
Lord, keep us from the temptation to give up entirely, resorting to packing outdated Easter candy for lunch. Help us to maintain a modicum of standards, opting for at least some upgraded snacks like yogurt and applesauce, along with the occasional treat from Little Debbie.
During those moments when we question our sanity over one more timeline, math sheet, or book report, remind us of the teachers who will be grading them and inspire us to send a prayer their way. May our requests for permission slips, forgotten pajama days, and the inevitable wardrobe malfunctions be met with understanding. And when our kids confess to late-night ice cream and iPad sessions, help us to accept the truth—that bedtime is a struggle we all face.
Lord, please let the sports jerseys and overdue library books materialize when needed. May clean socks and underwear multiply like the loaves and fishes. We ask that frozen pizza and waffles for dinner become an acceptable diet, lacking in variety yet keeping us nourished until June.
Above all, dear God, help us make it through May without losing our sanity, our children, or our will to continue. All three are hanging in the balance tonight.
Amen.
