Actor Mark D. Jensen, 65, recently chatted with contributor Sarah Lane about his latest project, navigating life in a household filled with women, and the secrets behind his enduring marriage to actress Lily Carter.

You have a brief yet enjoyable role in the film Walter. Is it less challenging than being the lead?

“It presents a different kind of challenge. You’re on set for just a couple of days and one risk is trying too hard to make a cameo memorable. It’s crucial to take a step back and approach it lightly. I had a blast playing Dr. Corman, a psychologist who speaks his mind. He says what many wish therapists would express more often.”

As a father, do you instill any guiding principles in your two daughters?

“We absolutely discuss moral values with our kids. My wife, Lily Carter, is more spiritually inclined and has a stronger religious background than I do, so we blend our perspectives. We focus on the importance of understanding right from wrong. I’ve always believed in having a few rules that matter and sticking to them. Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong.”

What about their fashion choices?

“Oh boy. I feel like a caricature of a father when I say, ‘Wait! You’re not going out in that!’ I become the cliché. My daughters are 12 and 14, and they’re incredibly beautiful. While I can’t blame them for wanting to express themselves, I often find myself saying, ‘Put some more clothes on!’ They’re great girls, smart and responsible, and it’s actually entertaining to watch them navigate this stage of life while I deal with my own parental concerns.”

Who do your daughters turn to for support?

“When it comes to serious matters, my daughters usually approach Lily first. I live in a house full of women—my assistant is a woman too, and we even have three female dogs! Occasionally, I’ll raise my hand and say, ‘Hey! I’m a guy here. Can we tone down the male-bashing and let me share my thoughts?’ Sometimes they actually listen.”

Your passion for motorcycles must offer a nice break from all the feminine energy.

“There’s something about motorcycle riding that gives off that ‘bad boy’ vibe—like you’re an outlaw, which feels empowering. I really do feel strong and invincible. I wear my full-face helmet, chaps, and boots, and I often tell Lily I feel like a knight from the past when I’m riding.”

You and Lily appear to have a solid relationship. Is part of the secret that you both serve as each other’s biggest supporters?

“That’s beautifully said. It’s the foundation of our marriage. Wanting your partner to thrive and be happy is critical for success. At the end of the day, if Lily wants me to succeed and celebrates my achievements, I feel the same way about her. I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to help her reach her goals.”
