Can you believe it? While I was catching some much-needed sleep, my sweet little baby morphed into a spirited, sometimes grumpy toddler—just like that.
He may not be walking just yet, but let’s not get caught up in the technicalities. This kid can devour a steak faster than anyone I know and has an alarming taste for anything that could endanger him. Just the other day, I caught him trying to munch on a banana peel he fished out of the kitchen trash. I mean, I get it—everything looks like fair game to him! From Nerf toys to Lego bricks left carelessly around by his older siblings, he’s got a knack for finding the most dangerous treasures. And yes, even Tampon applicators (seriously, why?!).
I had no idea we had crossed into Toddler Territory until I uttered a single word: “No.” That one tiny syllable sent him spiraling into a full-blown tantrum, complete with Oscar-worthy theatrics. Who knew saying no to a banana peel would unleash such fury?
Now, every time I try to protect him, whether it’s from trash or a potential hazard, he protests like a little hurricane. And let me tell you, this isn’t just any toddler; he’s a solid 32-pound bundle of energy, sporting 2-year-old clothes but with the mindset of a 1-year-old. At his last checkup, the pediatrician jokingly said, “I’m scared of you.” I truly hope he was just kidding!
As his motor skills finally catch up to his adventurous spirit, I find myself in a world of trouble. He’s figured out how to unlock every childproof door in our house! You know those locks that require an incredible amount of pressure to open? Apparently, they’re no match for my little genius. Just the other day, I found him gleefully splashing in the toilet like it was a water park!
The lesson here? Cherish those baby days when your little one is immobile and much easier to manage. Baby time feels like carrying a small purse that occasionally needs a snack and changes. In retrospect, it was a breeze compared to the chaos of toddlerhood!
Welcome to the never-ending marathon that is Toddler Life. I guess it’s time to invest in some new sneakers!
