As I write this, I’m enveloped in the scent of Juniper Breeze. The news that Bath & Body Works was reviving some beloved fragrances this summer—especially my all-time favorite from the ’90s—sent me racing to my nearest store on launch day. I was anxiously concerned that I might miss out on “the invigorating aroma of evergreens mingling with a meadow breeze, accented by notes of juniper leaves and dewy musk.”
To be honest, I wouldn’t have been able to describe what Juniper Breeze actually smelled like before checking its product details. To me, it embodies “the refreshing optimism of your mid-20s, tinged with newfound freedom and confidence.” Once I arrived home and spritzed myself with Juniper Breeze body spray, I was instantly transported back to my mid-’90s self—a nostalgic moment reminiscent of Proust, all thanks to a trip to the mall.
Of course, there’s a bittersweet aspect to this nostalgic pleasure. While I can relish this delightful scent I thought was lost forever, I know that the more I wear it now, at 45, the more its time-traveling allure may fade. But I’m willing to make that trade-off. For the time being, Juniper Breeze helps me relive those sun-soaked summers. Perhaps it—or one of the other revived Bath & Body Works scents—evokes similar memories for you as well.
