In this moment, I just want to take a deep breath. My toddler is wailing from her crib, while my middle child is behind me, gleefully ripping duct tape into shreds. Ah, nap time—clearly a chaotic scene.

I’ve been on a journey to rediscover my breath for months now. It’s felt like my spirit has been weighed down as I navigate the challenges of motherhood, searching for just a bit more patience and strength to make it through each day. I can’t afford to dwell too much on what lies ahead; I just need to focus on the present.

I’m exhausted, emotionally drained, and sometimes I find myself questioning when this phase will end. Surely, there’s a moment of calm before the teenage years, right? It can’t be this demanding forever.

Then, a moment of clarity struck me. After enduring months of struggle, an epiphany always seems to emerge—often met with eye-rolls from those around me. While cleaning up after another accident with my daughter, I realized that the act of caring for others is truly sacred. The simple tasks of cleaning, feeding, and nurturing them are profound.

Soothing their cries with the sound of my voice, witnessing their smiles, and singing them to sleep when all I want is some solitude—these moments are precious. Even when I’m exhausted and would prefer to hide in silence, seeing them relax as I sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” for the hundredth time is something special.

Indeed, parenting is tough, but it’s also holy work, no matter what your beliefs. Guiding children into adulthood is the most significant responsibility I have ever undertaken. When people suggest I must be unhappy if motherhood is my greatest achievement, I can’t help but roll my eyes in return. This journey is rewarding beyond measure.

If I can help my children grow into kind, responsible adults, it will be the most fulfilling accomplishment of my life. My fatigue has value, and it’s a reminder that others share this experience too. That’s all I truly need to hold onto today.
