School is Back in Session: 5 Solo Lunches I’m Enjoying

For the past dozen years, I’ve hardly known what it’s like to be alone. Between my children, my furry companions, and my vivid imagination, there’s always someone around—touching, talking, or bumping into me. But in just a week, everything is about to change.

As school starts, my kids will be off to their classrooms. Now, for many parents, this is just another routine milestone. You might call it “exciting,” but for me, it’s downright exhilarating. Why? Because after eight years of exclusively homeschooling, this is a brand-new adventure for us.

To clarify, we’re not diving headfirst into traditional schooling; we’re heading to a homeschooling co-op (who knew that was even a thing?), where my kids will spend a couple of days a week in a classroom with fellow homeschoolers. They’ll be surrounded by peers who totally get what it’s like to do schoolwork in costumes or while wearing snorkels (and yes, that has happened!).

On one hand, I’m thrilled for my kids as they embark on this fantastic experience. On the other hand, I’m bubbling with excitement for myself. What will I do with all this newfound alone time? I have hours—yes, HOURS—just for me, and it feels like I’m rediscovering a long-lost treasure.

Having already planned meals for the kids, it’s time to focus on my own culinary delights:

  1. Dining Out
Imagine this: I can have lunch at a cozy diner, without crayons or coloring sheets in sight. I can enjoy a meal solo, scrolling through my phone without having to share it! And best of all, no kids’ menus to worry about.
  2. Cooking In
Or, I could whip up something delicious at home! Picture baked garlic Brussels sprouts paired with spiced sauerkraut, accompanied by gluten-free pumpernickel and thin slices of roast beef with provolone. Sandwiches have never felt so divine.
  3. Solo Picnic
What if I took a book to the park and actually got to read it—like, really read the words? Just the thought makes my heart sing!
  4. A Trip to the Pub
How about heading to a local pub and catching a random soccer game on the screen while enjoying lettuce-wrapped lamb burgers and crispy steak fries? A refreshing Sam Adams would be the perfect companion.
  5. Lunch in Bed
Or maybe I’ll finally finish an entire episode of my favorite show with a bag of Doritos and a cold Stewart’s Orange Creme soda by my side. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?

These upcoming back-to-school lunches are sure to be exquisite. If you’re interested in more about pregnancy and home insemination, be sure to check out this informative post.

In summary, the transition back to school will not only provide my children with new experiences but will also grant me the long-awaited opportunity to enjoy some quality me-time. From dining at a local spot to savoring my favorite foods at home, these solo lunches are set to be a delightful chapter in my life.
