A Heartfelt Shout-Out to the Moms I Cherish the Most

Being a mom is truly a rewarding experience, not only because my little ones come running to me with open arms and radiant smiles but also because it has introduced me to a community of remarkable women. I’ve never found it easier to bond with others. Some of my closest friendships have blossomed from simple conversations at the playground, starting with a friendly, “What a cute kid! How old?”

The journey of motherhood can sometimes feel isolating, yet the incredible women by my side have transformed dull moments into joyful ones, easing my self-doubt along the way. I admire so many moms for their unique strengths—the ones who seem to have everything under control, those who exemplify endless patience, and others who approach every parenting choice with unwavering confidence.

However, I equally appreciate the moms who sometimes forget their diaper bags for playdates, the ones who let a curse word slip when things get tough, and those who candidly admit, “I have no idea what I’m doing.” I’m inspired by the moms who nurse their children for years as well as those who stock up on formula before their little ones even arrive. I respect both the helicopter moms and the free-range types, knowing that both have love at the heart of their approach. I admire the ones who pretend to be engrossed in endless rounds of Candy Land and orchestrate dinosaur parades, but more than anything, I cherish the moms who are unapologetically themselves—embracing their imperfections, both as mothers and as individuals.

Here’s a shout-out to some of my favorite moms:

  1. The one who arrived an hour late to a baby shower because she misread the invitation, bringing a large, unwrapped box labeled “car seat” and then refusing to play baby bingo. I love a mom who embraces her chaotic side with confidence!
  2. The mom who candidly admitted she had no idea how to cope when her nanny called in sick. On our first meeting, she shared that she took her infant to Chili’s for a drink while waiting for her son to finish preschool. Seriously, how does anyone parent without support all day?
  3. The mom who invites me over without tidying up first. Her priorities shine through as she chooses family time over a spotless house, showing that she doesn’t care if anyone judges her for a little dirt. It feels like a badge of honor to be welcomed into her home.
  4. The mom who freely calls her 2-year-old a “little rascal.” It’s refreshing to speak the truth in motherhood!
  5. The mom who makes time for herself through solo trips and regular girls’ nights. Motherhood isn’t a contest of who can sacrifice the most—self-care is essential!
  6. The mom who admits her partner can be quite annoying sometimes. We can respect our partners while also finding common ground in our shared experiences.
  7. The mom who didn’t feel the need to buy a special outfit for her newborn for New Year’s Eve. She resists the pressure of social media to keep up with others, and that’s commendable!
  8. The mom who serves fish sticks and fries for dinner. Nutrition is crucial, but let’s be honest—sometimes we just want to serve something our kids will actually eat.
  9. The mom who, in a moment of frustration while putting on her son’s shoes, got a little slobber on them. With three kids under three, I totally get it! I admire her for sharing her “real” moments with me.
  10. The mom who accidentally handed her son a spicy strawberry-jalapeño popsicle. When he started coughing, she thought he was being dramatic—only to taste it herself and realize it was indeed spicy. We all make mistakes, but some are just too funny not to share.

If you identify as an imperfect mom, let’s meet at the park. If you serve wine at your kid’s celebrations, count me in! Thank you for keeping it real; your authenticity inspires others to do the same. Motherhood is about nurturing children and forging incredible friendships.

A big thank you to all the moms out there who are embracing their true selves! Sharing this journey of motherhood with you is a delight.
