In a heartwarming photo shoot that’s sure to bring smiles, a clever photographer captured the magic of older twin siblings joining their newborn sisters for an unforgettable family moment. Including older siblings in a session with infants can be quite the challenge. Toddlers often have trouble sitting still, or their excitement to cuddle the little ones can turn a sweet photo into a chaotic scene. However, with a bit of luck and timing, you can catch a truly precious moment, just like photographer Mia Thompson did.
Mia, the owner of Bella Vista Photography, and her partner, Lisa, are over the moon with their two sets of twins: Leo and Luna, who are almost three, and the newborns, Ivy and Isla, born just two weeks ago. Recently, Mia took lovely photos of Ivy and Isla, and Leo and Luna happily joined in for one memorable shot.
The identical girls, born on January 26th, were beautifully posed next to their thrilled older siblings. Mia shared with us that this particular pose was part of her original plan, although the first attempt didn’t go quite as she envisioned it. “Earlier in the day, I tried to have Leo and Luna hold the newborns, but it was a total flop. After a short break, I brought them back into the studio, and we laid them all down for a quick snap. It took just two minutes! To get those big smiles, I told them to ‘act silly’—and they found that hilarious!”
It seems that the second attempt was a hit, as the delightful image is one that will surely be cherished for years to come. Mia also managed to snap several lovely pics of Ivy and Isla on their own.
The overwhelming cuteness of the scene is hard to resist. Even though Mia didn’t capture too many shots with all four children together, it’s clear that Leo and Luna are enamored with their baby sisters. Mia mentioned to Parents, “Leo and Luna have adored Ivy and Isla long before they even arrived. They’re both incredibly gentle, love holding and feeding them, and can’t wait for the days they’ll take them down slides and on tractor rides.”
Mia reflects on the surprise of having two sets of twins. While Leo and Luna’s twin status wasn’t unexpected due to “science and odds,” the arrival of identical twins was entirely unforeseen. “My partner Lisa and I were amazed throughout the entire pregnancy, and we still are! We never thought we would have four kids under three years old!”
Plans are already underway for more family photos as the kids grow. “I definitely want to gather them all for more photos as they age. But I’m thrilled with this particular shot of them together as newborns.”
Mia and Lisa are excited that their story is bringing joy to others and perhaps offering hope to those in the LGBTQ community trying to conceive. If you’re interested in learning more about home insemination, check out our guide on how to navigate the process.
