The latest tragedy left 58 lives lost and 500 injured. How does the usual response go? Cue the “thoughts and prayers” chorus, followed by a collective sigh of hopelessness. After incidents like Sandy Hook, many have resigned to the idea that nothing will change. “Now is not the time to discuss gun control,” they say, or “He was just a lone wolf—who could have seen it coming?” Some claim that altering gun laws won’t help because “bad people will always find a way to get guns.” Are you feeling stuck?
If you’ve thrown in the towel because things haven’t improved, that’s a pity. Are you really okay with living in fear and frustration instead of working toward real change? Snap out of it! What have you done so far, aside from venting on social media or sharing your frustration with friends?
The Reality of Gun Violence Survivors
The reality is that survivors of gun violence are fueled by anger, not defeat. They understand the toll gun violence takes on individuals, families, and society. Take the 40 parents from Sandy Hook who turned their grief into action by forming Sandy Hook Promise to ensure other children don’t experience the same fate. They did this for you!
And they’re not alone. Consider the inspiring journey of former Congresswoman Lily Hart, who survived a mass shooting in 2011. After her recovery, she established a group called Citizens for Safer Solutions. If a woman who was SHOT IN THE HEAD can mobilize for change, what’s holding you back?
Join the Movement
I’ve joined a non-partisan organization called Parents for Gun Safety, started by a busy mom from Ohio with five kids. She tackled carpools and chaos, yet she still managed to create the largest counterforce against the NRA.
Are we, as advocates for gun violence prevention, frustrated? Absolutely! Our pain mirrors that of everyone else. But we are taking action. We believe that change is possible, and by buying into the narrative that it isn’t, you’re only hindering progress.
Don’t just stand by, paralyzed by your pain. Refuse to accept the role of a victim. And if you choose to remain inactive, don’t spread discouragement by saying, “There’s nothing we can do.” With all due respect, forget that attitude.
We Can Make a Difference!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Are you ready to join us? Start today!
Check out Parents for Gun Safety or visit intra cervixial insemination for more ways to get involved. Also, take a stand against current legislation like the SHARE Act, which would make it easier for felons and domestic abusers to purchase gun silencers without background checks. Text “SILENCERS” to your member of Congress to voice your opposition.
For additional information on pregnancy and home insemination, visit Healthline for excellent resources, or check out Make a Mom for more on at-home insemination kits.
In Summary
It’s time to stop shaking our heads in despair and start taking action. Join the movement for change and make a difference!
