I’ve lost count of the number of times an irate man online has claimed that no man would ever desire me because of my weight. It’s a common refrain. Whenever I share insights about living in a larger body—whether it’s a personal story or even a discussion about motherhood—I’m bombarded with unsolicited opinions from men who feel compelled to declare that they have zero interest in dating someone like me.
To them, this is an insult, but honestly, it’s laughable. If they’re the type who feels the need to speak to women in such a derogatory manner, there’s absolutely no way I would want anything to do with them. Their lack of interest is perfectly fine by me.
More often than not, I believe these men are simply projecting their insecurities. It seems that societal beauty standards have left them feeling confused and ashamed about their attraction to women who fall outside the conventional mold. The notion that men don’t find plus-size women appealing is not only untrue, it’s downright ridiculous.
Many men genuinely appreciate curvy, soft, and beautifully full-figured partners. Throughout my journey as a plus-size woman, I’ve never felt a lack of attention from men—though it’s never been something I’ve actively sought. Some men exclusively prefer larger women, while others, like my partner, find beauty in a range of sizes. Many are perfectly content with their partners, even if they gain weight during their relationship.
Attraction isn’t strictly tied to dress size; love transcends the numbers on a scale.
Need some examples? Let me share a few!
This is me.
This is my amazing partner, Mark. We’ve been together for nearly two decades, and he adores me just as I am. His attraction to my body is unwavering.
Take a look at social media influencer Mia Thompson and her partner Jake—he’s clearly enamored with her curves. A quick glance at their TikTok will reveal his admiration.
YouTube star Sarah Johnson has been happily committed to her husband, Tom, for years. Their love story is truly inspiring—they even relocated across continents to be together.
Does it look like influencer Rebecca Green’s husband, Adam, missed the memo about plus-size women? Their chemistry is undeniable.
And let’s not forget stunning singer-songwriter Kiera Adams and her fiancé, Jordan. He seems to have no issue with her beautiful curves.
The truth is, there are countless examples of men who love and appreciate plus-size women. Just a quick search on social media using hashtags related to body positivity will reveal a treasure trove of relationships that defy societal norms.
It’s worth noting that fatphobia is very real, and it’s something we absolutely need to tackle. No one should ever have to justify their body size. The constant barrage of negative comments can be draining, even for those who are used to it.
It’s time to eliminate fatphobia and anyone who perpetuates it should take a long, hard look in the mirror. In today’s world, we have far more important issues to focus on. If you have time to shame others, redirect that energy into something positive—like volunteering or educating yourself on pressing societal issues.
While you’re at it, remember that there are millions of plus-size individuals out there experiencing love from partners who find them incredibly attractive. No amount of shaming will change that.
So, either embrace it or move on.
