As someone who spends far too much time scrolling through Facebook and Instagram (thanks for the weekly reminder, Apple), I’ve taken it upon myself to investigate nearly every online bra brand that pops up in my feed. My quest has been focused on discovering the elusive “ideal bra” — one that is incredibly soft, buttery, and comfortable enough for days spent working from home, yet versatile and supportive enough to wear with any outfit for hours on end.
After extensive searching, I found two bras that meet these criteria like no others I’ve tried before. The Bliss and The Base from Harper Wilde are a dream team. Both bras excel in comfort and support, providing a true second-skin sensation, albeit in surprisingly different ways.
The Bliss
The Bliss is the first bralette I can rely on to keep me (and my back) comfortable throughout the day. While it appears straightforward, the brilliance of The Bliss lies in the details. It’s crafted from the softest material imaginable — almost silky yet remarkably breathable. Honestly, if I could wrap myself in The Bliss fabric entirely, it would become my new go-to quarantine outfit. The support offered by The Bliss comes from this magical fabric that has just the right amount of stretch, keeping everything in place without the dreaded uni-boob effect. Although it’s not specifically designed for it, I have friends who say it works well as a maternity or nursing bra. It lacks the specialized clips, but its stretchiness allows it to adapt during times when comfort is essential.
The Base
On the other hand, The Base is my go-to choice, especially on those days when I’m out and about and need a T-shirt bra that remains discreet. The Base is a more traditional underwire bra, the kind I’ve worn since middle school (if only I had this bra back then!). It doesn’t reinvent the wheel; its strength lies in its simplicity and effectiveness. Even under my sheerest white shirts, I can wear this bra without worrying that everyone can see every strap, buckle, or edge. Remarkably, it’s the first bra I’ve owned that doesn’t make me want to rip it off as soon as I get home — that says a lot. Plus, The Base boasts some clever features that always bring a smile: front-adjustable straps (seriously, why were those on my back before?), a built-in j-hook for quick racerback conversion, and a fabric x-style bridge that allows for easy storage and packing.
I know I just shared a lot about bras — but this topic matters! They call these items intimates for a reason, and if something is touching my skin all day, I want it to be the most comfortable option available. Like all of Harper Wilde’s products, these bras come in four different shades of nude and are reasonably priced. The Bliss and The Base retail for $45 and $40 respectively, which I think is a small investment for such lasting comfort.
