I don’t know about you all, but I’m feeling a wave of frustration lately. And I bet many other writers might dance around the issue, but you know what? Forget that. I’m ready to be honest—I’m furious.
Furious because we’re approaching 200,000 new cases a DAY in this country, and people I know are ending up on ventilators. I often spiral into panic because I can’t bear the thought of this situation escalating into complete chaos. It takes ALL of us to extinguish the flames.
Furious because my family—and numerous military families—might miss out on spending Christmas together this year because folks can’t just chill for a moment, wear masks, and stop hosting ridiculous high school homecoming parties.
Furious because the current elected officials aren’t doing their jobs. They aren’t managing to provide our hospitals and healthcare workers with adequate PPE and resources to combat COVID, nothing to streamline testing, and absolutely zilch to help keep small businesses afloat or prevent massive layoffs.
This isn’t about politics—I honestly don’t care which party you align with; BOTH sides are equally culpable. This is about Americans who are currently homeless, unemployed, and hungry, and they NEED assistance NOW.
Furious because instead of coming together to seek bipartisan solutions, we’d rather point fingers and argue over issues that have long passed and milk that has already spilled.
Furious because I can’t even pick up a newspaper anymore without feeling disgusted by the headlines.
Furious because some people seem to prefer believing that scientists, scholars, doctors, and journalists have spent their lives trying to mislead them, rather than accepting the reality.
Furious, and also feeling helpless and despondent, because I’ve tried to make my voice heard, and it feels like it’s fallen on deaf ears. Does anyone care about anyone else anymore? Is this what we’ve become? A nation of self-serving, indifferent children?
Get your act together, America. It’s looking like coal in your stocking this year.
