After a mob of insurrectionists caused chaos at the Capitol, many of the maskless rioters are now facing the repercussions of their actions. From being placed on no-fly lists to losing their jobs, some have ended up in jail. Among them is self-proclaimed “QAnon Shaman” Jake Angeli, whose real name is Jacob Chansley. He is currently detained in an Arizona facility and is quite displeased with the food being served, claiming it’s not organic.
It’s almost hard to believe. Chansley surrendered to the FBI in Phoenix after the riot in Washington, D.C., and faces two federal misdemeanor charges—knowingly entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
At 33, Chansley is known for his involvement in QAnon conspiracy theories and frequently attends pro-Trump rallies. He is easily recognizable for his horned costume, fur headdresses, and lack of a shirt. During a virtual court appearance, he expressed a surprising lack of concern for his charges, stating, “I’m not really all that worried about it because… I didn’t break any laws. I walked through open doors.” However, his main concern seems to be his dietary restrictions. His public defender informed the court that Chansley has not eaten since entering custody due to being on an “extremely restrictive diet.” The judge indicated that the U.S. Marshal’s Office would be notified about these dietary needs.
Martha Chansley, Jacob’s mother, was present in court to explain her son’s food requirements. Apparently, these preferences are not based on health issues; instead, Chansley simply prefers organic food. “He gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food – literally will get physically sick,” she stated.
One wonders if he realizes he’s not in a gourmet organic grocery store. Naturally, social media had plenty to say about Chansley’s demands. The U.S. Marshal for Arizona confirmed that they would cater to his dietary preferences.
Chansley’s sense of entitlement is evident, especially when his mother described him as a “patriot” and “the gentlest person I know.” This raises questions about how entitlement is cultivated, suggesting that it may stem from more than just participation trophies. It reflects a troubling mindset where one can threaten serious harm yet still demand a specific kind of quinoa.
