In a revealing first trailer for her upcoming YouTube docuseries, Demi Lovato shared the shocking aftermath of her 2018 overdose. Titled Dancing With the Devil, the four-part series promises an intimate exploration of Lovato’s darkest moments.

“I’ve had so much to say over the last two years, wanting to set the record straight about what it was that happened,” Lovato expresses to the filmmakers. “FYI, I’m just going to say it all and if we don’t want to use any of it we can take it out.”

The trailer features nearly three minutes of Lovato candidly discussing her harrowing near-fatal overdose, alongside reactions from her friends and family as they witness the depth of her story being explored. The documentary aims to provide a comprehensive look at the events surrounding her relapse and the months leading up to that fateful day in 2018. YouTube describes it as “an intimate portrait of addiction.”

For the first time, Lovato disclosed the severe extent of her health issues following the overdose. “I had three strokes. I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes,” she revealed.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lovato expressed gratitude to her loved ones for their unwavering support during her recovery journey. “There has been so much that I’ve wanted to say, but knew I had to say it right,” she wrote, sharing her excitement about revealing her story after two long years.

During a recent press call, Lovato elaborated on the lasting impacts of her overdose. “I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today. I don’t drive a car because there are blind spots in my vision,” she noted. Lovato also mentioned her struggle with reading for an extended period, adding, “I feel like they kind of are still there to remind me of what could happen if I ever get into a dark place again.”

Despite her challenges, she remains optimistic: “I’m grateful for those reminders, but also I’m so grateful that I was someone who didn’t have to do a lot of rehabbing. The rehabbing came on the emotional side and the therapeutic side, internally.”

Dancing With the Devil is set to premiere on YouTube on March 23.
