My daughter enjoys sharing TikToks with me featuring the latest culinary trends, beauty hacks, and adorable animal clips. It’s a cherished bonding activity that I always look forward to. She typically waits until she has a collection of these videos before we snuggle on the couch to watch them together.
Recently, I stumbled upon a video showcasing a product called Wonder Water—a hair treatment I had never heard of before.
For context, I have a history with my frizzy hair. Growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, I was a fan of Sun-In, lemon juice treatments, and VO5 hot oil treatments. I often damaged my hair and then attempted to repair it with those hot oil products. Once Frizz Ease became available, I used it religiously every day.
In college, straightening irons were not readily available, so I used the widest curling iron I could find to tame my wavy, frizzy hair, which I had bleached with a cheap box dye. It was an uphill battle, and I never quite achieved the sleek styles I admired in magazines.
Over the years, I’ve tried countless products in an effort to smooth my hair and manage the frizz—everything from shampoos to conditioners, masks, and keratin treatments. Even now, despite no longer using harsh chemicals, my hair still feels damaged and straw-like, so I’m open to trying anything that promises results—especially if it’s available at the drugstore for around $10.
Discovering Wonder Water
If you’re unfamiliar with Wonder Water (as I was), you’re in for a treat. This product genuinely works and feels unlike anything else I’ve used on my hair.
Before using Wonder Water, my hair was in desperate need of attention. I usually keep it trimmed because my ends become dry and tangled, especially after workouts. My hair feels healthy for about five days post-trim, after which it quickly reverts to its usual state of frizz.
Eager to use Wonder Water correctly, I researched the application process directly from L’Oreal. They recommend washing your hair first, then applying the water from the mid-lengths down to the ends while using a zig-zag motion with your hands.
The first thing that struck me was the delightful scent of the product—it was light and floral, which already gave me a sense of healthier hair. I learned that you only need to leave it on for eight seconds, and the formula adjusts to the level of damage in your hair.
Immediately, I noticed a transformation; my hair felt like silk. The Wonder Water foamed up, and my hair seemed to expand significantly, indicating that it was working. It was such a satisfying experience that I briefly considered leaving it in longer to revel in the luxurious sensation, but I ultimately stuck to the recommended eight seconds.
After rinsing, my hair felt fantastic, and I debated whether I needed to condition it, but I went ahead just to be safe. While drying my hair, the brush glided through effortlessly, leaving it looking better than after salon keratin treatments.
Since I have fine hair, I only used about a quarter of the bottle, so I have plenty left for future use. However, if you have thicker or curlier hair, you may need to use more.
Typically, when using heavy serums, oils, or masks, my hair would end up looking greasy, but that’s not the case with Wonder Water as it adjusts to your hair type. You can’t really mess this up!
I’m thrilled to find a product that genuinely works for my hair, and I plan on using it indefinitely. The only challenge now is keeping a sufficient stock for both myself and my daughter because, trust me, if I run out of Wonder Water, it won’t be pretty.
