Katy Perry recently reminded us that sometimes, choices must be made between shaving legs and putting on makeup—and there’s no right answer.

Hey everyone! Katy Perry just gave a shout-out to moms everywhere. You know that knowing glance you share with another mother while navigating the chaos of parenthood? Maybe it’s in the grocery store, where one of you is managing a toddler’s meltdown or juggling a baby while trying to bribe a little one with snacks. That unspoken understanding, that nod that says, “It’s your turn today, but I’ve been there,” is truly heartwarming.

New moms are on a journey of discovery, and after welcoming her daughter Daisy Dove with fiancé Orlando Bloom, Perry has decided that leg shaving isn’t a priority right now. In her view, family comes first.

Last month, Perry shared with Entertainment Tonight, “Motherhood makes you feel powerful, but it also makes you feel vulnerable.”

No one needs to feel obligated to groom themselves a certain way, but there’s a sense of camaraderie among mothers that’s invaluable.

During the April 4 episode of American Idol, Perry told contestant Jenna Lee, “Your voice is a spiritual experience. It is otherworldly, angelic. As a new mother, I don’t have much time, so I’ve stopped shaving my legs. But when you sang, it gave me full body chills!” In a bold move, she lifted her legs onto the judges’ table, prompting fellow judge Luke Harrison to confirm, “She literally has leg hair.”

We’re all in this together, Katy. You and your beautiful leg hair are relatable to so many of us.

American Idol tweeted a cheeky post about Perry’s statement, saying, “Me: I’m going to be productive today,” followed by a snapshot of her legs under the caption “Also me.” Perhaps they overlooked the fact that Perry left her baby to come to the studio ready to work. The presence or absence of leg hair doesn’t define a person’s ability to excel in their career, right?

We see you, fabulous Katy Perry, and all the hardworking moms out there. You’re legends. Let’s start a new trend of embracing our leg hair as a badge of honor.
