Meghan Markle has officially added “children’s book author” to her impressive resume. Her debut book, titled The Bench, is set to be launched on June 8, offering a heartwarming narrative about the bonds between fathers and sons.

This touching story, crafted from a mother’s perspective, draws inspiration from her husband, Prince Harry, and their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. As noted in the official press release, the book “captures the evolving and expanding relationship between fathers and sons” and highlights the diverse ways love is expressed in modern families.

Markle shared that The Bench originated from a Father’s Day poem she penned for Harry, shortly after Archie’s birth. “That poem became this story,” she revealed in a statement from Random House Children’s Books. The book also features illustrations by the acclaimed Caldecott-winning artist, Christian Robinson, who created beautiful watercolor images that depict the warmth and joy of the father-son relationship across various backgrounds. “It was important to me that this representation reflects an inclusive lens,” she explained.

The illustrations tease various scenes, including one of a father in military uniform lifting his son, while another depicts a father peacefully napping with his child. Markle’s poignant words read, “From here you will rest, see the growth of our boy,” in reference to the bench that symbolizes the bond.

Amidst her writing endeavors, Markle continues to embrace her roles as a mother, wife, feminist, and activist, living in California with her family, including their pets. The couple has also been busy with various projects since stepping back from royal duties, including a multi-year deal with Netflix and a partnership with Spotify for producing podcasts.

You can preorder The Bench on Amazon for $18.99. Additionally, Markle will narrate the audiobook version, aimed at children aged three to seven years old.
